Bumble Inc to Acquire Gen Z Social App Geneva
Bumble Inc has announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Gen Z community app Geneva. Known as ‘the online place to find your offline people’, the social app will form part of Bumble Inc’s next chapter in the social discovery sector.
In a new statement on its website, Bumble Inc highlighted that it is “outlining a new model for friendship and connection”. This new strategy will focus on one-to-many connections, as opposed to its established one-to-one model.
“Imagine a space where you can discover groups of people with shared interests and experiences one-on-one or as a part of a broader group. Whether it’s a running group in Soho or new parents in Springfield, our vision is to build an app that is the safe and kind online place where you can find friends”, it explained.
To bring this to life, Bumble Inc has signed an agreement to acquire community platform Geneva. The deal is set to be finalised by Q3 2024, with the company planning to present “a new, group-centered friendship experience built by Bumble Inc”.
Geneva is a social discovery platform which allows users to arrange events, create group chats, and meet new people in their area.
“Bumble Inc. has always been about more than dating”, shared Lidiane Jones, CEO of Bumble Inc.
“Today, we’re recommitting to our friendship mission. We’ve signed an agreement to acquire Geneva, a social app for groups and communities. Our plan is to accelerate our friendship product using Geneva’s powerful technology platform. This will help us expand our friendship model from one-to-one to many-to-many – grounded in our commitment to kind, safe online spaces”, she said.
In a statement on its own platform, Geneva shared that it would be supporting existing groups during this transition period, but temporarily making the platform invite-only.
