Survey: Why Having A Foreign Accent Can Land You A Date

An intriguing new survey by Hily reveals a foreign accent could significantly increase your chances of landing a date on dating apps.

According to the survey, which involved 2,000 Hily users, a whopping 81% find foreign accents sexy, crowning Spanish, British, and Australian accents as the top-tier charmers.

Interestingly, although people often associate French and Italian accents with romance, they rank in the middle, suggesting that users have more diverse preferences than one might expect.

So how do foreign accents offer such a significant boost in the online dating world? Hily’s survey suggests that accents bring a unique charm and a sense of novelty, important for sparking initial attraction and chemistry.

About 37% of users believe that accents dramatically boost the connection between potential partners, with another 49% acknowledge a subtler yet impactful influence in the early dating stage.

The results also highlight an open-mindedness among Hily users towards multilingual dating and cultural exchange.

What’s more, a significant majority are open to learning their partner’s native language and view multilingualism as an attractive trait that adds depth to a potential partner’s appeal.

Notably, over half of the survey respondents admit that they are solely drawn to someone because of their accent, with nearly one in five confessing to having a recurring weakness for certain accents.

So when it comes to deploying this “accent advantage,” the consensus is clear: don’t try to hide it, flaunt it.

Considering the positives of having an accent, the survey also brings up the question of authenticity: is it acceptable to fake one? Thankfully, few daters surveyed have tried this – and rightly so, with responses rating not just foreign accents but also openness and authenticity as attractive traits.
