Is the Online Dating Industry Investing Enough in Trust & Safety?

A new report from CBS News poses the question: should the online dating industry be investing more in trust & safety? Kathryn Kosmides, Founder & CEO of Garbo, shared her perspective in this news video segment.

In a new segment on CBS Mornings, Chief Investigative Correspondent Jim Axelrod explores the challenge of romance scammers in the online dating industry.

When speaking with Kathryn Kosmides, Founder & CEO of Garbo, she stated that after conversations with dating apps from across the industry, “trust and safety is not generating enough revenue for them to invest in it”.

In response to CBS News’ investigation, Match Group told the news channel that it consistently spends $125 million each year on trust and safety, with its team having grown by 30% over the past 12 months.

“It’s existential to our business to remain safe,” Match Group CEO Bernard Kim told Jim Axelrod of CBS News.
